Why Can't I Send/Receive E-mail?

First, check our System Updates to ensure there is currently no maintenance ongoing.

A number of connection-related errors in Outlook/Outlook Express can be due to bugs in the software e.g.:

"The connection to the server has failed. Account 'xxxxxx', Server: 'mail.xxxxxxx.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL):No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E."

Often restarting the computer on which problems are occurring can resolve these issues.

If problems persist, please follow this checklist of questions:

  1. Is Internet access working normally e.g. can web pages be viewed?
  2. If you share a network with other people, are they experiencing similar problems?
  3. Is the problem occurring when sending to multiple recipients or only one?
  4. Are any error messages being received? If so, what are they?
  5. If no errors were received, what time/date were messages sent, and to what addresses?
